    Rules of Play

    1. Grown-ups must supervise and stay with their children at all times.
    2. Everyone is encouraged to use caution on stairs, ladders, slides and under low ceilings.
    3. Food, drink and gum are not permitted beyond the snack area of the coatroom.

Kidcity is designed for children ages 1 to 7 and most of our visitors are under age 5.We want everyone to have a safe visit - what's fun and appropriate for one child might be too risky for another. Please use your judgment when deciding which activities are right for your child. Note that Kidcity is not a playground or padded playspace; though there are a few low-key sliding and crawling activities, it's intended for pretend play.

    Third Thursday Evenings

Kidcity is open for free from 5 to 7 pm on the Third Thursday Evening of every month!

    Weather Closings and Other News

For up-to-date information on what's happening at Kidcity, see our Facebook page.

    Stroller Policy

Because of limited space within our exhibits, Kidcity does not allow strollers beyond the coatroom, where we have stroller parking. We apologize if this makes a visit to the museum more difficult - unfortunately, it's a choice we had to make for safety's sake. If you don't have a baby sling or carrier, please ask to borrow one at the front desk. If you have a special need, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you!

The Toddler Sea Caves & Big Swim

The Toddler Sea Caves are restricted to age 2 and younger, so crawlers and early walkers have a place of their own. If you have both younger and older kids, please skip that room or bring a second grown-up so that your older children can play upstairs while you and your little one enjoy the Toddler area. If you have to miss the Sea Caves, please know that your toddlers will find age-appropriate activities within the other exhibits in the museum.

There's an exception to the age (0-2) rule : On the 1st day of every month, Kidcity offers "Big Swim" all day, so older siblings can join their younger brothers and sisters for gentle play in the Toddler Sea Caves. Grown-ups are asked to prevent climbing, running and other active play, since the area is still intended for crawlers & early walkers.

    Birthday Parties

Kidcity offers birthday parties for children turning age 5 or younger. For up to 10 children, plus all of their accompanying adults, our parties include admission for all plus our private party room for a two-hour block. Bring refreshments to serve your guests and then enjoy free play in the museum! Parties are $250 on weekends; for details, please call our front desk at (860) 347-0495.

    About our Exhibits

Kidcity has three floors of imagination play, where kids ages 1 to 7 play pretend with their favorite grown-ups. Our exhibits include a Fishery, where kids use conveyors and pulley baskets to bring in the catch; a Space Age Roadtrip, where friendly aliens take a trip on Route 66; and a pint-sized medieval village called Middleshire, where kids build a castle and keep watch for Vikings. For our littlest visitors we have the Toddler Sea Caves, where early walkers wave scarves and dance with mermaids. There's also a Main Street, a Farm, a Video Theater, and classics like trains, baby dolls and more. Kidcity also has the only known Celebrated Bathing Fluid Dispensary, invented by the renowned Dr. Nostrum, which is as entertaining as it is hygienic. For photos of our museum, visit our Facebook page or see visitor photos on TripAdvisor, Yelp and Instagram.

    Kidcity History

Kidcity is a non-profit organization that's governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We opened the museum in 1998 with the following mission: The Kidcity Children's Museum will celebrate a child's natural curiosity by offering a downtown hands-on playspace where children ages 1 through 7 come with parents and other significant adults to learn through play. Kidcity will be a safe and enriched educational environment, which fosters the development of problem-solving skills and creativity. As a child-friendly public space, Kidcity will support every parent's effort to be the best parent they can be. Kidcity's exhibits are designed and built in-house by our exhibit team of Jen Alexander, Matt Niland, Scott Kessel and other local artists, with a shout out to our original exhibit artist Ted Esselstyn.
